Equipment/inventory

AT ETH Z¨¹rich, all equipment

• with a purchase value of CHF 10,000 or more (per item) and
• a life span of at least one year

is recorded in the ETHIS inventory database (mandatory inventorying by delegated inventory managers). Equipment with a lower purchase value or shorter life span can be recorded on an optional basis.

The inventory database is accessible to all ETH Zurich employees via ETHIS (ETHIS > Procurement > Equipment/Inventory > Show inventory object) and shows among other information the following: the equipment name, manufacturer, age, and affiliation of the equipment to an organization unit.

It is also possible to search for these criteria. If, for example, you have sporadic need to use a certain type of device, you can check the database to see if and where such a device is available and get in touch with the owning organization unit to check if the device is available.

Note: For security reasons, device locations are not displayed directly, only the Leitzahl of the unit responsible for the device. Names and contact persons for a Leitzahl can be found in the Organizational Database. 

Marketplace for second hand and equipment sharing

The internal market place (ETHIS > Procurement > Equipment/Inventory > Market place second hand & sharing) lists devices that can be acquired internally free of charge or for a fee, or that are advertised for shared use. Here, too, contact is made via the Leitzahl (see above).
Listings on the marketplace are made by the inventory manager responsible for the device.
