Christophe Copéret elected member of the Swiss Academy of Engineering Sciences
Christophe Copéret, Professor of Surface and Interfacial Chemistry at D-CHAB, has been elected a member of the Swiss Academy of Engineering Sciences (SATW) for his visionary advances in heterogeneous catalysis and surface chemistry.?
Andreas Krause elected as new SATW member
Andreas Krause (D-INFK), Professor of Computer Science at ETH Zurich, has been appointed as a Full Member of the Swiss Academy of Engineering Sciences (SATW) in 2026 – in recognition of his pioneering research in artificial intelligence.
Professors Menna El-Assady and Bernhard Sch?lkopf elected for UN AI Scientific Panel
Two ETH Zurich computer scientists, Menna El-Assady (D-INFK) and Bernhard Sch?lkopf (D-INFK), have been elected by the United Nations General Assembly to the newly established Independent International Scientific Panel on Artificial Intelligence, a landmark initiative assessing the opportunities and risks of AI.?
Outi Supponen receives ESRF Young Scientist Award 2026
Outi Supponen, Professor at the Institute of Fluid Dynamics in the Department of Mechanical and Process Engineering at ETH Zurich, has been awarded the 2026 Young Scientist Award by the European Synchrotron Radiation Facility (ESRF). The ESRF honours her for pioneering contributions to experimental multiphase fluid dynamics.
Gerald Haug appointed to the German Council for Sustainable Development
Gerald Haug, Professor of Climate Geochemistry at the Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences and former President of the German National Academy of Sciences Leopoldina, has been appointed to the German Federal Government’s Council for Sustainable Development.
ETH Entrepreneurship Award for Eleni Chatzi and Ingo Burgert
Double honour for the Department of Civil, Environmental and Geomatic Engineering: at the Dandelion Entrepreneurship Awards, Professor Eleni Chatzi and Professor Ingo Burgert were each honoured with first prize in the categories ‘Inspirer & Entrepreneurial Educator’ and ‘Connector & Venture Enabler’, respectively.
Peter Müller named ACM Fellow
Professor Peter Müller (D-INFK) has been named an ACM Fellow in recognition of his contributions to automated, modular program verification. Big congratulations!
André Bardow receives the Wilhelm Jost Memorial Medal
André Bardow, Professor of Energy and Process Systems Engineering at the Department of Mechanical and Process Engineering at ETH Zurich, has been awarded the Wilhelm Jost Memorial Medal for his achievements in physical chemistry. The award ceremony took place on 15 January at Georg August University in G?ttingen, Germany.
